Overview

The brief by SEEDS was to design a 5200m2 office on Moratuwa’s busy Rawatawatta road for its head office located around a small commercial suburb with small entrepreneurs.“Artha Dharma Kendraya” was the name given to the Sarvodaya Economic Enterprise Developments Services Headquarters  (SEEDS) as an economic empowerment area of “Sarvodaya” movement.

Main objective of this center was to disburse loans for small entrepreneurs who are members of branch associations at village level. The recipient had the open opportunity to be advised and trained through workshops organized by the head office while enjoying the residential facilities provided in the same premises.

The full height entry space provides a grand arrival experience to the office building. Each level is connected via a connecting freestanding staircase, which facilitates a more socially engaged workspace and efficient circulation. The mirror finish window glazing is of aesthetic intention.

The building is also notable for being one of the practice’s early commercial design projects.
